Two Tickets Reflection

Wow!  What an amazing story.  When I was reading the history of the author they said that her mother and her traveled to China together.  So during the whole story I thought for sure they mistakened as her mother was passed away, but not I get it.  In her heart and mind her mother was there with them; her soul was present.  I also love the detail in the story, it was just the right amount for me.  The author really knew how to bring her audience in, I laughed, took time to reflect, and cried during this read (I know crazy, yet again I am pregnant so my hormones get me going!!).  I would love to read more of her work as this short story was amazing and inspiring.

Another aspect that I thought was important about her story is how she set the setting.  She made it clear where she was at all times so the reader could follow her story.  The amount of detail given with each part made me feel like I have been there (which I have not since I barely get to leave SD!).  This story takes the reader on a world adventure for a women to discover who whole life.

I can't believe she did not 'feel' Chinese.  I guess I have always assumed that you just 'feel' what you are because it defines you.  Yet, as I reflect on this I realized that how can I say that I am half German and half Dutch as I really can't define what this means in terms of culture.  Maybe I need to explore my own roots!  I am sure others know way more about my own roots and that is sad, know I know what the author meant by not 'feeling' Chinese.
