Last post for class
Wow! I cannot believe it has already been 10 weeks. I am so ready to "start" my summer vacation, even though it ends here for me real soon as we have to attend teacher in-services for student teaching. Anyways, I really did think this course reinforced what I already knew about literature and helped me gain a deeper understanding before I dive into teaching it. At last, for my opinion of my first online course>>> YUCK!!>>> Ha! I am so much more of a person-to-person kind of gal. I would have rather been siting in the classroom talking about everything because I feel you take away more. Although, I do not think it was terrible just different for me.
Paper Reflection
Hmm... that paper was interesting to say the least. I really wish we would have met in person and really talked about what was expected and maybe even seen some samples. When approaching this project it was like it was so big and I was so unsure of what was exactly expected. As I still sit here wondering, that is until I hear back from the teacher on his review of it!

"Fences" Ending Reaction
Okay, so at the funeral was a little awkward. I had so much hate filled up in me against Troy that I could almost imagine wanting to skip reading about it. I totally felt with the son that did not want to attend his own father's funeral. It is sad when your child hates you so much that they don't even want to attend your funeral, the last time the get to see you. I think this story though teaches us a lot, nonetheless about people and feelings, but about life itself. I loved reading this play and would really enjoy it if I could see it being performed somewhere. (Although through some research it looks like it is currently unavailable to be used as a play anywhere due to some copy rights.)
"Fences" Cheating Reaction
I was so mad when he told his wife that he was going to be a daddy to somebody else. Plus, he is so old it was kind of creepy to think about. I mean no wonder she died during labor, especially at that time and age. At first when I found out she was dead all I could think was "Great! She totally deserves that and had it coming," yet why her and not him? Although I think Troy too lost out on a perfect life as his wife loved him a ton and could of cared for him forever. In the end it was almost like they were divorced just living under the same roof.

Daystar Reflection/Connection
I loved the poem Daystar. It really reminded me of myself, being a student and a busy mom. This lady calls herself a star because she performs with high marks each and everyday. She takes care of the house, her children, and her husbands needs. I love how she creates what she calls a "palace," which is simply a place in her garage where she can just be "nothing" for an hour while the children have nap time. The duties of a mother can be exhausting even though they are well worth it!
Understanding Poetry
Hmm... Poetry is sometimes a difficult topic. As we read poetry we each decode what we are reading and make decisions about the meaning of the poem. Poetry is not written to be straight forward, you are suppose to dissect it and discover the meaning. So what happens when two people get a different meaning? It happened this week and each person had a whole different understanding of the poem. I mean I think poems have an ultimate meaning. I don't think you can just make it up for yourself. So where do you go from there?

What lips my lips have kissed... Reflection
Yet again another favorite poem of mine for the week. I think it goes to show where your life will end up if you go from one lover to another. She has had many men, even so many she cannot remember them all. From what I can tell she loved their physical attraction and intimate times but not their commitment. Overtime she never decided to stay with one man and in the end ended up with none. Now she longs for the love of a young man that she can no longer get.
