Response to The Lottery

What a horrible ending!  I mean, not in the sense of the writing, the authors words are great, but the ending is disturbing.  What kind of tradition is this?  If they really don't understand the use of the lottery why do they do it?  What was different about the way they performed the lottery before?  These are all questions I still have after reading this story.  I want to know more about each person, and the tradition.  I want to know what happened the next day.  In the end, the story must be effective if it leaves me wanting more.  Now, I know I have studied this story before, but I cannot seem to remember answers to these questions!  Although, I think it is important for literature to get you thinking, so this author did a great job!
