Writting and Essay

Wow!  I never knew there were that many elements in writing an essay.  I guess I have always been exposed to the "writing process" but I never really took the time to understand why we should follow it.  Often times I skipped many parts of the "writing process".  When a student does not really know what to look for and understand the logic behind an idea it is hard for them to follow it.

After reading Ch. 29 in BL I finally (at age 22) figured out why I need to follow the steps.  I feel that if this would have been better explained, modeled, and expected of students in earlier grades that this would not be so foreign to people.  As a future educator, I know that many students will skip over the idea of "drafting" or "re-writing" often times skipping just to revising or keeping the first draft as the final draft.  Maybe, just maybe, if I take initivative to help young students understand the value of the process then maybe opinions can change.  I could only imagine what my papers would really look like and sound like if I took the time to edit in the amount of detail BL tells you to.  So where did we fall of the track?  How can we change it?

There is always time to break a bad habit, and that is something I am in desperate need of doing.  If I want to be a good model for my future students, then I myself must first change.  Once I can really capture the spirit of writing I can start helping others develop their love for writing.
